Finding our voice! Ending the silence!

We showcase Pro Rosia Montana NGO work that tells the stories of our community’s past and present. These local stories have been the products of this modern mining project we want to see implemented in Rosia Montana in order to facilitate positive mining development.

WE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN MINERS AND WE WANT TO REMAIN MINERS!

“I was born here in Bucium. Now I’m a pensioner. I fully agree with the presence and activity of RMGC here because the youth from my village can’t find jobs. The young ones survive because their parents have some meager earnings. They raise cattle, a calf- life is very difficult here, most of the people have no money. This Romanian-Canadian company creates jobs, ensures revenues to the village budget, takes care of the infrastructure, repairs roads… previously it was a disaster, many cars broke down because of the potholes. By the end of the day, I think that RMGC is a good company and benefic to the local community. I’m in favor of the project and this is how many others think. Of course, there are a few Mafiosi who think in a different way. Those guys had a good life during Ceausescu’s regime and now they want to dictate other people how to live… They claim that they represent those living in Bucium. My personal view is that the village of Bucium can decide its fate on its own, without any interference. A good example in this respect is Rosia Montana. Many living there have a better life because of RMGC, they have a better social position. Some of them bought nice houses and have a better life, this compared with us, who have such a miserable life here.

I’ve got a son who had been employed by RMGC. Now he has lost his job because the company had to suspend works following allegations that drilling is damaging the environment. He couldn’t find any work. How can he survive? I’ve got a small pension, because I’m handicapped. My wife gets a very small social security allowance. How will we survive if RMGC doesn’t resume exploration work here?”

“I was born in Rosia Montana, I lived there during my childhood. I read in newspapers about pollution. Let me tell you about pollution. The water has always been polluted since the old roman exploitation. And even now we can watch this red water coming down from the mine. Something has to be done and I put my trust in Rosia Montana Mining Project.”

-Szekely Arcos, 54 years old, ex-mine worker

Dear Synod of Romain Orthodox Church,

Priest Bartolomeu Anania, has constantly negatively associated the name of the Orthodox Church with the fight against the gold project. By doing this, that priest does not take into account the fact that he fights against the interests of the local communityMore
